Potential Service offerings that will be available if we can gain sufficient demand from homes/businesses in the area. Reduced installation costs could occur if funding is available.

Upgrade and network news
on: Thu 26 of May, 2011 [22:05 UTC]  (257 reads)
wireless
We recently had issues with the old network feed again, this time an intermittent cable fault and two lightning/static damaged modems (The hazards of overhead lines). We have replaced the cable and fitted two new modems. This has brought the capacity back up to a sensible level.

Upgrade - We are getting surveys done for a Fibre feed to the network. The cost of this maybe significant so we will be looking for new customers if this work goes ahead as well as commitment of the existing customer base. We will be increasing the usage allowances and speeds also. The prices may still be a bit higher than our other networks as we have to try and keep the losses on this network down until there are sufficient customers to keep it sustainable. If of course you know of funding sources then this step can be skipped.

New Internet feed for the network
on: Tue 05 of Oct, 2010 [09:59 UTC]  (385 reads)
wireless
As part of the gradual (self funded) upgrade plan of the Tatenhill and Rangemore network we are organising a new high speed internet feed. This will increase the capacity on the current network notably as well as move us one step closer to bringing the network services into line with our native ones once the rest of the network is upgraded. (lower prices, higher speed and allowances)

The system upgrades once complete will allow a lot more people to connect including Henhurst Hill and all at much higher speeds than attainable via phone line (8/16/24 Mbps+ down , 1/4/6 Mbps+ up).

Problems with a Relay
on: Mon 04 of Oct, 2010 [19:45 UTC]  (400 reads)
wireless
We are experiencing intermittent performance from one of the inherited relay poles, this seems to be worsening and the cause is under investigation.

To replace the contents of this pole with our new technology is not a simple task as it requires ALL the customers it feeds to be converted at the same time. To replace "like with like" would also be expensive as the units used have a high price tag and no "spares" were provided when we took over the network.

The latter option is a definite no go so the former is the only one if we cannot repair the problem.

When we took down the lightning damaged pole earlier this year we did notice the connectors to the equipment were full of water and we suspect water damage is the culprit here too.

Lightning damaged aerial replacement..
on: Fri 06 of Aug, 2010 [09:26 UTC]  (658 reads)
wireless
At the end of July a Lightning storm damaged one of the old/inherited aerial masts. We put together a new aerial and spent a day or two changing affected customer aerials as the older units they had were not compatible with the new system aerial.

The result is the new aerial is up, it has far greater capacity than the old one, is much neater , aesthetic and also has a far greater resistance to lightning damage than the old tech in use before.

The customers who had their aerials changed are now on the "new system" and this will have some benefits now but when the system backhaul is upgraded then the full benefit will be seen.

This also means we are able to connect new customers in certain areas, Tatenhill common and Branston Road (DE13 9SA area) if required.

Upgrade of the rest of the network will be done over stages as it brings with it considerable time and money cost.

The picture to the left is the old aerial (now replaced).

Bandwidth monitor now fully active
on: Sun 02 of May, 2010 [20:36 UTC]  (599 reads)
wireless
We have now enabled our Bandwidth monitor for Tatenhill and Rangemore areas so customers can check how much they are using of their monthly allowance at any time.

To do this visit http://usage.server or http://www.usage.com from your Kijoma connection .

In order to ensure everybody gets what they pay for the system will restrict the service speed if the monthly limit is exceeded, if this continues to be exceeded by 10% the service will be suspended until the end of the month. to prevent this happening, if you see your usage is going to exceed your tariff then contact us to request a service upgrade.

Note: Use outside peak times is currently not metered for all Tariffs (Peak time is 08:00 to 23:00)
